Let Food be Thy Medicine and Medicine be Thy Food”

Hippocrates, known as the “Father of Medicine,” believed in the power of food and how to reverse illness and promote self healing through good nutrition. Continuing in this tradition, there have been many health movements and nutrition pioneers over the centuries that have contributed to a tremendous body of knowledge we now have available regarding the importance of nutrition in human health.

Today, one of the premier food pioneers is David Wolfe who promotes eating what he calls super foods to rejuvenate the body and help eliminate disease. Super food can be best described as food with high phytonutrient content and other power packed nutrient values that are abundant and bio-available to the human body.

For example blueberries are often considered a super food (or super fruit) because they contain significant amounts o f antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber.Superfoods supply minerals, vitamins, and other essential nutrients, are natural and have not been denatured by heat, storage, or other alteration.  You don’t have to be a raw foodist to enjoy the powerful effects of raw living foods!

If you want to sharpen your mind, heighten your senses, brighten your mood and increase your stamina and strength here are a few suggestions to add to your grocery list the next time you visit your local health food store.
